What is Mars-the Roman God of War- in astrology?
1. The ruling planet of Aries and the traditional ruler of Scorpio. How is it possible that it rules both the fiery Aries and the watery Scorpio?
In the fiery Aries, it behaves as a bold and brave warrior. While in the watery Scorpio, it is more refined, more like a strategic planner, like a major general. (You don’t want to fight with them at all, mind you!!!)
2. The red planet is visible to the naked eye. Especially when it is in retrograde motion and closer to the Earth than usual, it looks like an angry eye/planet in the sky.
3. Mars’s main domains:
blood, injuries, cuts, bruises, hurt, scars, weapons, driving force, raw sexual desire, fights, arguments, competition, war, military, army, sports, taking risks, young people, action, confrontation, pain, anger, male energy, being active, sexual energy, accidents, fever, infections, hot, hot spices, quick temper, make things happen, fighting for yourself, logic and common sense
4. Body organs under Mars’s influence
Wherever you have Mars in the natal chart, that body organ, which the Zodiac Sign and the house are associated with is prone to accidents, breaks, surgeries, cuts, and bruises. Be careful with them!
i.e.: The red planet in Gemini or the 3rd house native is prone to accidents, breaking, hurting the arms and the hands. Mars in Cancer or the 4th house, the native might have a problem with the breasts. Or in Pisces or the 12th house, native has problems with their feet and ankles, might break, or have surgeries on their feet, or hurts them more often than other body parts.
5. The red planet in a female horoscope shows the male qualities the woman is attracted to. However, Jupiter symbolizes the husband in female natal charts. And it matures at the age of 28.
6. The red planet energizes anything it “touches.”
Wherever Mars is located in the natal chart, or whatever it touches when moving in the sky it energizes that particular subject of life it is associated with.
The planet of war gives the push or driving force to make things happen, to start something new. That specific subject of life that the red planet touches- either in the natal chart or when during its transits- gets energized. That area of life is where you don’t get tired, your focus goes, however, that is the same area where the native can get triggered and angered.
For example, when it is located in the 7th house- the house of marriage and partnerships- the native tirelessly pursues relationships or makes a lot of effort for the existing relationship. If Mars transits the 7th house the native becomes energized to make connections or get active with the partner. However, during the transit, the native might be triggered by their partner, or have fights and arguments.
When it travels through the 4th house, the house of home, it gives more activity to the family, but it can also indicate more arguments and fights at home.
7. Mars in the natal chart
Where does the planet of war feel the best, or has the planetary joy? In the 6th house, and it is also good in the 8th and 10th houses.
The 6th house is the house of imbalanced situations and conflicts. Therefore the planet of war is good for those situations when you have to “defend” yourself. And 6th house is debt, illnesses, and Mars there makes you energized to be able to act on them.
While the 10th house is a career, worldly achievements, and Mars give you the drive to be a high-achiever. And in the 8th house makes you a daredevil to be brave and do something in emergencies; when life-altering events happen, you know what to do and don’t hesitate to do it.
Mars tends to be better in the night charts, while more aggressive and impatient in the day charts.
8. The negative side of the red planet
Arguments, fights, accidents, injuries, etc are all the negative manifestations of the red planet. And those can be considered wake-up calls so to speak. Those happen when the Martian energy isn’t directed into something that could lead you forward in life, that could make things happen.
9. The red planet is “active” once in a while
It was named after the Roman God of War- in ancient mythology- and war happens once in a while. There is no war all the time. Therefore, we don’t use Mars all the time.
In other words, there are certain times when we need to “use” Mars, occasionally to make things happen. To fight for something, to make something happen, to move forward with life, to stand up for yourself, to protect yourself, etc.
Where is your Mars placed in your natal chart? And what gives you the urge to act on something, or to pursue something?
