Why is the Ascendant the most significicant part of the natal chart?
Firstly, the Ascendant Sign is the Zodiac Sign and degree that is ascending on the eastern horizon at a specific time and location of the native’s birth. In other words, the point of incarnation, when the soul incarnated in the body.
Ascendant, aka the most important point in the horoscope. The most individual and defining element there. It shows the physical body, the appearance, the main personality traits of the native. And most importantly, the path of life the native is walking and the timing of the live events.
I.e.: Aries Asc. person has a athletic body, with toned muscles and fast reactions. Or a Leo asc person has an outstanding hairstyle and bigger body in general.
The ruling planet
The ruling planet of the Ascendant Sign and the astrological house and Zodiac Sign it is located in in the horoscope shows what the native is self-identifies with, and known for. That is the subject of life -house and Zodiac Sign placement of the ruling gplanet- the native’s ‘mission’ and and he/she is actively involved in.
I.e.: A Taurus asc. person, whose Venus (the ruling planet) is in the 2ndhouse (house of money, finances), is self-identifies with his/her money, possessions, and here to create material, tangible abundance, and stability.
If a planet conjunct or aspect the Ascendant, it modifies the characteristics of the native.
I.e.: Sagittarius asc. person loves going into the wild nature, always out and about. If the Moon conjunct the Ascendant, the native prefers to be a stay-at-home mother or self identifies more with the role of a mother. (Moon rules mothering, nurturing, and caretaking)
The Ascendant Sign changes in every 2nd hour in general. However, in Pisces it takes only 30 minutes while in Virgo- in the opposite Sign- it takes 3 hours or more. Therefore there are fewer Pisces Ascendant people than Virgo.
The Sun changes signs only once in a month; everybody who was born in those certain 30 days has the same Sun sign. However, they all have different personalities and destinies as well because they have a different ascendant sign, in different degrees.
The other great significance is that by knowing the sign and the degree of the Ascendant you can predict every life event with ease.
I.e.: If Saturn transits one’s ascendant, that triggers a new beginning in life. If Jupiter transits the 7thhouse (house of marriage and partnerships) in the horoscope, the person might fall in love or take their relationship to the next level in that period.
(For readings, I use the Whole Sign Souse Calcultaion System, then Placidus.)
