Marriage in Astrology | Spouse, Late or Multiple Marriages, Divorce
Will you have an early marriage? Or will you marry later? Do you have indicators for a long-lasting marriage?
Marriage in astrology is an all-time hot topic and probably the most popular one.
Astrology has a significant role in some cultures, i.e., in Hindu culture- Vedic astrology -as it is still widely used for arranged marriages.
However, there is an endless debate among astrologers and non-astrologers too; who is really in charge of matchmaking? The matchmaker, the Creator (Higher Power, Universe, God, you name it), or we humans have a choice when it comes to “choosing” our life partner.
A lot of spiritual-minded people believe children choose their parents before they incarnate and “match their parents together.” Others believe that before incarnating our souls already had an other half or come from a soul family, and even the timing of finding each other is already predetermined. So who is in charge of the matchmaking? Can it be the Algorithms on the dating apps?
My professional experience with marriage in astrology:
Anytime I look at synastry charts of married couples or partners, it is almost always clear that they had an “agenda” with each other. They had to meet, have children together, or just pay off the karmic debt to each other (if you believe in karma). It’s never a coincidence with whom you date or end up with.
Regardless of your belief about matchmaking, whether matches are made in heaven, predestined, or your decision, the astrology chart indicates if you will have an early marriage, later, or multiple marriages, certain planets, and houses show the character traits of your spouse. The natal chart also carries indicators for divorce, staying single for a prolonged period, or getting married later in life.
House of Marriage in the natal chart
The 7th house
The house of marriage is the 7th house. The ruling planet of the 7th house, its placement in the natal chart, planets in the 7th house, and the Zodiac Sign that falls on the 7th house cusp– aka the Descendant- tells the main qualities of the spouse. To be specific, the qualities of the first spouse, but if you are granted more marriages, all the spouses carry the qualities of the 7th house.
It can show if the marriage will be a long, happy marriage based on sexuality, or mutual belief system, or will be full of fights and arguments, and so much more.
The 7th house rules all sorts of agreements and contracts. Marriage is a contract, an agreement too. What should be considered a marriage? Not only literal marriage, official marriage, partnerships too, living together, or having a child together, basically having a shared responsibility together. Dating is the 5th house domain.
The 9th house
The 9th house is the institution of marriage. Therefore, planets in the 9th house can alter the marriage.
Such as Saturn there can give a long-lasting, might be emotionally deprived marriage, or it can delay the marriage. Depends on the dignity of Saturn and the aspects. With the North Node in the 9th house native marries up or marries someone from a higher social circle.
Example 2: The Moon in the 9th house can indicate that the native stays single for a longer time and gets married or vice versa as the Moon rules the tides, the ebbs, and flows. Or the person marries young and might divorce later.
Example 3: Uranus in the 9th house might give a sudden marriage, a surprising marriage, or a sudden divorce.
Venus and Marriage
Planet Venus generally speaks about how you connect, show affection, attachment style –superficial and on a mental level-Gemini, or deep bonding- Scorpio Venus.
It also shows our self-worth; without healthy self-worth, one cannot maintain a healthy, stable, and equal romantic relationship.
Venus is responsible for setting boundaries and knowing when, how, and what to compromise. People with Libra Venus are the best in that.
An afflicted or weak Venus brings some painful, disappointing experiences to the natives, especially at a young age. However, having a weak Venus is not a life sentence, and an exalted one is not a guarantee for lifelong happiness either.
Vedic astrology on marriage
In Vedic astrology, Venus shows the personality and character traits of the wife alongside the 7th house.
Weak Venus indicates a not-so-good wife, so to speak. Venus is weak in Cancer, Leo, and Virgo. In other Zodiac Signs, it can give a good wife. However, those men who have weaker Venus should wait for the marriage. And try to be smart when it comes to getting married. (If it is in our hand…?)
Jupiter represents the husband in a female chart. Jupiter in Pisces, Sagittarius, and Cancer gives a good husband, while in the other fire and water signs gives an ok husband, and in the rest of the six Zodiac Signs, it indicates a not-so-good husband, so to speak.

Planet in the 7th house from the Moon
This, again in Vedic astrology, is widely used to get extra and accurate information about the spouse. The planets in the 7th sign from the Moon speak about the spouse too.
(I’ve done countless research on this one, and it gave accurate information about the spouse.)
What to look for?
The planet is located in the 7th house from the Moon- according to the Whole Sign House calculation system, not Placidus.
Planets in the 7th house from the Moon:
Sun: The partner might be bossy, and the native feels in their element when in a relationship.
Moon: spouse is compassionate, sensitive, and carries Cancer-ruled character traits
Mercury: shallow partner, mercurian, youthful, well-informed, good communicator or a businessperson
Venus: a lot of desire, either the native or the partner has a desirous nature, the partner is socially graceful
Mars: this is an indication of having fights, arguments, and tension with the spouse
Jupiter: The spouse is wise and has good morals, or the spouse is a foreigner
Saturn: there is an age difference, or a more mature partner, serious partner, can indicate a problem in marriage, or later marriage, stable and responsible partner
Rahu: The partner is not stable, lot of upheavals in the relationship
Ketu: detached, problems with addiction, ups and downs in the marriage, can be an introverted partner,
If there is no planet in the 7th house from the Moon, As always, begin with the 7th house, its ruler, and planets in the 7th house.
Also, in Vedic astrology, the d7 and d9 divisional charts speak about the spouse and the marriage more in-depth.
Indicators for a Good Marriage
Having Jupiter in the 7th house, or having Jupiter in a harmonious aspect with the 7th house ruling planet is such a fortunate placement.
Venus in the 7th house can indicate a compromising and socially graceful partner or spouse, and the native with Venus in the 7th house is also willing to compromise and aim for balance and harmony.
If the 9th house ruler is in the 7th house, or the 7th house ruling planet is in the 9th house- those are also fortunate placements.
If the 7th house ruler is in the 7th house– in its own sign- or if it is in another house but has good dignity and good aspects from other planets. Or the 7th house ruler is in a harmonious aspect with the 9th house ruler.
Delaying influence in marriage
What is late marriage? In Vedic, it is considered after the age of 28; in Western society, that is not too late at all. In Western culture, it is probably after the mid-30s.
North Node,-Rahu- or South Node- Ketu- in the 7th house
North Node, aka Rahu in the 7th house, doesn’t necessarily delay the marriage. It just matures after 40; once it matures, the native is more intelligent when it comes to commitment and maintaining a marriage or relationship.
North Node in the 7th house indicates that the natives experiment with a different partner, even with a foreign partner, from different cultures, countries, or social classes. Either the native or the partner is confusing and might mislead the other. The north node is a demonic influence… And wherever the North Node falls in the natal chart, the native has less or no experience regarding that subject of life. During this lifetime, the natives learn how to keep an equal, balanced romantic relationship. North Node in the 7th house is an indicator for many partners or many business partners. Or the native can get into social circles through their partners. Again, North Node aka Rahu is an opportunistic influence.
The South Node -Ketu- in the 7th house is undoubtedly a delaying influence. The native gets detached and disinterested in a committed relationship or marriage. Since the South Node shows the subject of life the native has mastered in previous lifetimes, the native is disinterred in that subject. Or it can indicate a partner/spouse who is detached from reality or spiritual-minded.
Saturn in the 7th house
Suppose Saturn is placed in the 7th house better to marry after the first Saturn return. In case the natives marry before the age of 28, the marriage is karmic and will lead to divorce once the karmic debt is paid off.
However, Saturn is in the house of contracts, mutual agreements, and promises therefore it can give stable, very long-lasting marriage as well. Not the most fun marriage but a stable one that endures the test of time.
Or it can indicate a significant age difference between the native and the spouse—7 years or more.
As Saturn is all about responsibility if it is in the 7th house, the native has responsibilities towards his/her spouse, or the marriage requires mutual responsibility.
A good Saturn in the 7th house is not bad at all if it is in an air or earth sign.
Saturn can also delay the marriage if it aspects the ruler of the 7th house or the ruler of the Ascendant.
Similarly, Saturn can delay the marriage if it is located on an angle (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house cusp.)
The 6th house ruler in the 7th house
The 6th house improves with age, and if the ruler of the 6th is located in the 7th house, it can delay the marriage, or it can bring the 6th house issues to the marriage, such as broken promises, conflicts, and health issues to the spouse.
The same is true for the 7th house ruler in the 6th house.
I also noticed that Pluto in the 7th house could delay marriage. Why? Because wherever Pluto is, you experience both ends of that subject of life. In other words, Pluto in the 7th house can deny the marriage or committed partnership for a long time, and later it gives a lasting marriage. Or the opposite too.
The 2nd marriage in astrology
The 2nd house shows the 2nd marriage in astrology because it is the 8th from the 7th house, death, and rebirth of the first marriage.
Some believe that it is the 9th house, but it tells more about the sibling of the 1st spouse.
3rd marriage is the 9th house; it is the 8th from the 2nd house, while some believe it is the 11thhouse.
Age difference in marriage
Younger partner
If the 7th house ruler is conjunct with Mercury, or Mercury is in the 7th house.
Older partner
Saturn in the 7th house gives seven years or more older partners. However, I’ve seen it gave seven years younger partner…
Saturn conjunct or aspect of the 7th house lord, or Saturn is on an angle -1st, 4, 7th, or 10th house cusp.
Divorce in astrology
What are the planetary indictaors for divorce in astrology?
The 6th house ruler in the 7th or 7th house ruler in the 6th house. The house of conflicts, disagreements, and broken promises is connected to marriage and contractual relationships. (Better to work with the spouse (6th house=work) to manifest the 6th house energy on a more positive level.)
The 8th house ruler in the 7th house, or the 7th house ruler in the 8th house. The 8th house is sudden life-altering events, death, and rebirth of something. For example, when it is connected to the house of marriage, it can indicate a divorce.
12th house ruler in the 7th house, or 7th ruler in the 12th house. The 12th house is endings, dissolutions, and secret enemies; someone is doing something behind the native’s back, but the native is unaware of it.
The 2nd house ruler in the 7th house or the 7th house ruler in the 2nd house can also lead to separation or divorce because the 2nd house is the 8th house – sudden disruption, death, and rebirth- of the 7th house- marriage.
Planets in the 7th house as indicators of divorce
If Moon is located in the 7th house, it can lead to separation. As Moon rules cycles, ebbs, and flows the native experiences having a committed relationship and then the “dry period” when there is no relationship. Moon in 7thhouse can bring a Cancer-born partner (Sun, Moon, or Ascendant there).
Mars in the 7th house creates a lot of conflicts and tension with the partner.
If Mars is in the 4th house or the 12th house it can also lead to divorce as the 12th house is the 6th from the 7th, the enemy (6th house )of the marriage.
Uranus in the 7th house, or on an angle (Ascendant, Ic, Mc), speaks about divorce, too, as Uranus is the planet of liberation. It liberates the native from the contract and promises and brings sudden changes and sudden disruption to the marriage. Or it can show a very unusual partner or marriage. As well as Uranus’s aspect to the 1st or 7th house lord too can also indicate a divorce.
Neptune in the 7th house is not an easy placement either. Neptune is illusion, fog, misleading, and betrayal. Either the native or the partner is misleading and dishonest. Or the native doesn’t really know the partner…However, on a more positive note, Neptune in the 7th house can bring a beautiful, soul-connection with the partner, a spiritual union.
For Leo and Cancer Ascendant people, it is advisable to marry after the first Saturn return as Saturn rules their marriage house. However, if a Cancer Ascendant- native marries at a young age, it can be a karmic marriage that will eventually fall apart once it played/fulfilled its role…
While Leo people, having Aquarius in the 7th house can lead to separation because Uranus, the liberator, rules Aquarius.
Rahu in the 7th house can give multiple marriages, and Mercury too.
On a personal note:
I’m aware that romantic relationships and marriage are the No.1 topics people turn to astrologers, healers, counselors, etc, as it is a cardinal subject of life. And a stable, loving, emotionally fulfilling relationship is one of the most beautiful blessings in life. Unfortunately, relationships can be a source of pain, hurt, disappointment, trauma, abuse, and many issues.
Either you believe that relationships are predestined, or we have a choice with whom we date and marry, I would never encourage anyone to jump headfirst into a relationship or marriage, especially not at a young age, only for the sake of not being single, or due to social pressure.
My professional and personal experience is that sometimes marriage (or a committed relationship) can hinder you from doing other things especially at a young age, and especially for women.
The reason is women who are married or in a committed long-term relationship tend to become comfortable in the role of a wife, mother, or girlfriend and stop chasing their dreams and career achievements, having hobbies and friends, not continuing studying, etc.
If you don’t get married in your 20ies but use your precious time wisely, you don’t have to feel sorry for yourself. There is so much to do when you are young. And sometimes, some people are meant to do something outstanding, something greater on a worldly scale, and having a marriage or relationship that requires time and effort- even the good ones- would hold them back.
To my mind, early marriage is not necessarily a blessing, even if it is loving, stable, harmonious, and emotionally fulfilling. Maybe lucky are those who don’t find the love of their lives in their 20ies… but later when there is nothing else left for them. When they have a life, when they know themselves deeply, when they achieved something, when they’ve created a good life for themselves, or when they’ve healed themselves.
Final Thoughts
Casually dating at a young age can be so much fun; however, those young years should be used wisely. You can date in your 30ies and get married later as well.
What if you never get married? Sadly, not everyone has the merit to experience a beautiful marital life. And not every marriage is a walk in the park. Every path of life is different. However, anyone can live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
The purpose of life is not only to get married, bear children, and have a mainstream, semi-boring job. Life can be so much more, and time is the most precious asset you have, mind you.
What are your thoughts on that? And what is your 7th house like? Do you have planets there? Are you happy with your partner, or are you divorced? Please share your experience with your 7th house, so we can all learn from it. Cheers, Niki
