The planet of tough lessons
Saturn, the giant planet, has the worst reputation amongst the planets- besides Pluto. Those who read my articles know that it is the planet, which distributes painful lessons, and pushes us to work hard. Restricts everything it touches and delays the life events according to the astrological house it is located in or aspects.
However, this is the most manageable planet of all!
When it hits a sensitive point in the natal chart
Its transits are in charge of almost all the bad (or unfortunate) things that happen to us. Such as losing a loved one, financially challenging times, heartbreaks, health issues, losing a job, etc.
Keywords for the hard taskmaster planet:
blockage, slowing down, challenge, delays, hard work, time, karma, karmic lesson, something old. older people, authority figures, long-lasting, crystalization, grumpy. the pessimistic, repeated effort, restriction, stability, structure, self-organization, self-discipline, maturation, seriousness, resistance, career, and worldly achievements. karmic debt, disappointments. improves with age, predictable. perseverance, responsibility, efficiency, law and regulations, order, lawful way, and no shortcuts. and no risk-taking, measuring every step. moving forward slowly but steadily, with professionalism, and self-criticism. critical demanding, government, organizations, fears, longevity.
What a list of painful things?!
Purpose of the planet of karma
There’s no coincidence that we all have it somewhere in our natal chart. Its primary goal is to teach us precious lessons. Such as being more patient, growing up, mature, taking responsibility, and working hard. And basically, to master all those character traits that are stated above.
And most importantly, correct those mistakes we made during past lifetimes or learn what we haven’t mastered in previous incarnations. This planet has a lot to do with karma. (These depend on which sign and house it is located in the natal chart )
Is it possible to avoid the painful karmic lessons and take advantage of its transits?
To my mind, the most useful advice is to make a career out of your Saturn with hard work. And to master all the character traits that Saturn appreciates.
Once we overcame some difficulties represented by our Saturn. Learned our lessons and lived our life according to Saturn’s expectations in that specific area of life. Under Saturn’s influence, we can manifest handsomely with tangible material results there, and Saturn makes our success long-lasting.
Friends and enemies among the planets
Saturn is friends with Mercury and Venus. Therefore even the hard aspect of these planets teach painful, karmic lessons and subjects of delays (that area of life that is under their influence). Later in life those planets “act together”, and manifest beautifully. The test comes first, the lesson later, mind you.
While Jupiter, Sun, and Mars are friends of each other but Saturn is their enemy. Jupiter is such a benevolent planet it is no enemy to any of them. However, Saturn and Venus weaken Jupiter.
The Moon is neutral, it adapts. But Saturn weakens and starves Moon.
Day vs Night charts– the sects
Saturn tends to be better in the day charts and more harsh and cruel in the night charts.
Day chart means the Sun is above the Ascedndant-Descendant axis. Between the 7th and 12th houses. In other words, the native was born after the Sun was above the horizon.
The hard taskmaster planet is more difficult to handle in the night chart because it is already cold and dark. (The domains of Saturn.) A night chart means the Sun is below the horizon. It is located below the Ascendant and Descendant Axis. Between the 1st and 6th houses.
The best approach toward Saturn
Consistent moderate effort. For whatever it touches in the natal chart, that subject of life takes consistent, moderate effort. Or during its transit. For example Saturn in the 6th house in the natal chart, a consistent moderate effort to preserve health. Such as eating healthy every day and taking a 30min walk outside every day. Doing anything without burning out.
Acceptance. As it brings some painful and karmic lessons, that seems unfair. Acceptance is the most mature and wise approach towards this strict teacher planet.
Letting go of what is not necessary. Saturn teaches us to throw away the lemon that we can’t squeeze more juice out of. In other words to let go of everything that doesn’t serve us anymore. Keep what is necessary and serves you. Saturn rules minimalism and essentialism.
No waste. Saturn rules longevity and sustainability. And the only way to achieve that is not to burn out, and not to use all the resources you have. Use what is necessary and don’t overdo anything.
Where do you have Saturn in your natal chart? And what kind of karmic lessons have you learned in that specific area of your life?
